			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Ontario workplaces are invited to take part in the 5,000 Firms Study, an exciting research project that is developing <b>health and safety leading indicators.</b> Being conducted by the Institute for Work &amp; Health, a not-for-profit research organization based in Toronto, the study aims to identify and assess organizational measures that allow workplaces to <b>gauge health and safety performance before injuries and illnesses occur</b>. Those who complete the 15-minute online survey will receive a report benchmarking their results against other organizations in the province—or against other organizations in their sector, if numbers permit. The deadline for participation is <b>May 31, 2012</b>. <br />

The <i>Casman Group of Companies</i> is looking for an experienced <b>Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager</b> to join their team in Fort McMurray.<br />
<br />
<br />
 The main responsibility of this role is to <b>assume responsibility for the implementation, management and maintenance of the company's HSE processes, systems and programs.  </b>In  addition, you will formulate safe work standards, and enforce  procedures including risk prevention of hazardous materials exposure,  accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions.<br />
<br />
<br />
 More specifically, the successful candidate will:<br />
<br />
<br />
 <br />
<ul><li style="">Participate in the development, implementation, and surveillance of the Quality Management System objectives and procedures;</li><li style="">Assess and develop implementation strategies to achieve corporate compliance with emerging regulatory initiatives;</li><li style="">Ensure Occupational Health &amp; Safety (OH &amp; S) and reporting  compliance with regulatory bodies, industry associations, and related  stakeholder groups;</li><li style="">Administer the Safety and Loss Management program through review of  work practices and making recommendations to ensure compliance with  safety standards, laws, good construction practices, and accepted safe  work techniques;</li><li style="">Supervise Health, Safety, and Environment Advisors;</li><li style="">Coordinate and participate in scheduling all internal audits and inspections;</li><li style="">Conduct Internal Audits, First Aid Certifications, and other HS &amp; E initiatives; and</li><li style="">Perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul> <br />
The ideal candidate will hold or be working towards the following credentials: <br />

<br />
 <br />
<ul><li style=""><b>National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), <br />
</b></li><li style=""><b>Occupational Health &amp; Safety Certificate, <br />
</b></li><li style=""><b>Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).</b></li></ul> <br />
This role will suit an experienced HSE professional as you will have  excellent knowledge of the concepts and principles of quality, health  and safety, and environment.  The <i>Casman Group of Companies</i> is  seeking a self-motivated and adaptable candidate with high initiative  plus strong communication and interpersonal skills.  You will have  strong attention to detail as you lead improvement initiatives for the  organization. Energy Supplies Emergency Act: S.C. 2012, c. 12, ss. 1725-1727 are in force amending ss. 3, 4<br />

deletes 1 and adds 1 substance in Part 4. <br />

Metal Mining Effluent Regulations (Fisheries Act): SOR/2012-22 makes amendments to improve<br />
the environmental effects monitoring (EEM) provisions of the MMER. The amendments also include some administrative<br />
changes to improve linguistic consistency and readability of the MMER and to reflect Environment Canada's current<br />
organizational structure.<br />

Pest Control Products Sales Information Reporting Regulations (Pest Control Products Act):<br />
SOR/2012-72 replaces subsection 11(1) regarding audited sales information. <br />

Fire Prevention Regulations (Fire Prevention Act): R-008-2012 amends ss. 2 and 3.1 regarding<br />

<b>ONTARIO </b><br />

<br />
Occupational Health and Safety Act (R.S.O. 1990, c. O.1): S.O. 2011, c. 11 amends the Act by<br />
bringing in to force several sections of the new occupational health and safety scheme. In<br />
addition to other changes, sections 22.5 to 22.9 have been added to allow the Minister to<br />
designate an entity as a safe workplace association,  medical clinic or training centre specializing<br />
in occupational health and safety where it meets established standards. Section 50 is amended to<br />
allow inspectors to refer matters to the Board where workers allege their employers violated the<br />
prohibition against reprisals or where other circumstances warrant a referral. Such matters cannot<br />
have been dealt with by binding settlement, arbitration or where the worker is filing his own<br />
complaint with the Board.  Workers must consent to any referral.<br />

REGULATIONS<br />

Air Pollution - Local Air Quality (Environmental Protection Act): O. Reg. 507/09 is now fully in<br />
force. References to the approved ISCPRIME dispersion mode have been repealed.  Other<br />
amendments have been made as a result of this change.<br />
<br />
Building Code (Building Code Act, 1992: O. Reg. 503/09 is now fully in force.  Changes related<br />
to occupancy permits for houses have come into force.<br />
<br />
Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste (Waste Diversion Act, 2002): O. Reg. 11/12 amends the<br />
regulation by adding sections 5 (Quarterly Fees) and 6 (Revocation of rule).  <br />
<br />
Transitional Matters - Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, 2006 (Places to Grow Act,<br />
2005): O. Reg. 8/12 amends s. 2.1, 3.1 and adds ss. 5.1 - 5.6 (Growth Plan for the Greater Golden<br />
Horseshoe - Simcoe Sub-Area).<br />

Home Heat Tanks Regulations (Environmental Protection Act): EC2012-66 amends the section 4<br />
to discontinue home heat tank inspectors licenses.  Other sections have been amended as a result<br />
of this removal.  Several sections throughout have been amended to reflect the removal of<br />
Schedules B and C and replace certain requirements with those in the Home Heat Tank Systems<br />
Technical Standards Handbook, as well as other standards, such as CSA standard B-139.  Section<br />
16 has been amended to use the defined term 'double-bottom tank'.  Section 14 (Identification<br />
tag require) has been repealed and replaced.  Sections 14.1 - 14.4 have been added to the<br />
regulation. <br />
