The District of Saanich is seeking a proven professional to lead their Occupational Health and Safety Program into the future. Building on recent success as the first municipality in BC to achieve WorkSafe BC Certificates of Recognition in Health and Safety and Return to Work, the Manager will implement continuous improvement to further strengthen the corporate safety culture. As part of the management team the goal is to improve service to the public by leading and supporting employees toward less injury, more productivity and cost reduction.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Manager will provide expert guidance on all OH&S matters including accident and occupational disease prevention and return to work programs. Setting high standards and being results driven will be paramount. The incumbent will lead by example and provide expertise in safety and injury management while establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including managers, supervisors, unions, employees, OH&S committees and WorkSafe BC representatives.
The ideal candidate will bring to the District an outstanding track record of implementing occupational health & safety practices in addition to a solid understanding of claims management within a diverse, multi-faceted organization. In addition, the candidate must have an Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or University degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or acceptable equivalency; a CRSP or CSP designation and a minimum of seven years’ experience in the practice of occupational health and safety and claims management, including three years’ experience in a management/supervisory position.
