Department Information
The mandate of the Department of Transportation, Government of the Northwest Territories is to plan, design, construct or reconstruct, acquire, operate and maintain public transportation infrastructure in the NWT, including community airports, docks and the highway system, and to regulate and license individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

The Department is responsible for a transportation system that consists of 2,200 kilometres of all-weather highway, 1,450 kilometres of publicly constructed winter roads, five ferry and ice crossings and 27 community airports.

Job Information
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services, the Occupational Health and Safety Specialist (OH&S) is responsible for the department wide delivery and on-going modernization of the Department of Transportation's (DOT's) occupational health and safety and wellness programs. The OH&S serves as DOT's expert for all DOT Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees and Safety Representatives responsible for promoting work place safety practices across all worksites spanning five headquarter divisions and four regional offices.

Applicants should have expert knowledge of, and ability to apply, exemplary practices in the areas of health, wellness and safety. Strong client service orientation skills with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Strong analytical and research skills are required. Through this opportunity, the successful applicant will have knowledge of an ability to interpret Acts, Regulations, policies and procedures applicable to OH&S management.

Typically, the above qualifications would be obtained by a relevant Bachelor's degree coupled with four (4) years in a relevant field.

Equivalencies
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $41.24 per hour to $49.23 per hour (approximately $80,418 - $95,999) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
