Health & Safety Trainer/Consultant
Health and Safety Compliance of Ontario (HASCO) supplies Occupational Health & Safety trainers and consults to various firms across Ontario. Our clients are growing training and consulting firms that need assistance delivering training to their clients. HASCO provides sub-contractor training services to locations across Ontario and is currently looking to fill a role in the Ottawa Region for one of our busiest and largest clients.
Our client established their business in 1997, and is a leader in the health and safety field, employing a dedicated group of health and safety professionals working to provide effective and memorable health and safety services to Canadian workplaces.
Our client provides health and safety training, auditing, consulting and occupational hygiene testing. They also conduct on-site risk assessments and review and create policies and safe operating procedures. Training courses are provided on a regular basis at many convenient locations across Canada 7 days a week.
At the present time, our client is booking approximately 1 – 2 weeks of work per month in the Ottawa region with the intent to increase this volume to full-time equivalency once a candidate is in place. No expressed guarantees can be communicated at this time however a fully-staffed call centre is busy selling this market.
Role Overview
The ideal candidate must be able to work well with limited supervision, be based in Ottawa and be able to travel within the region. Our client prides themselves in having a happy, energetic and productive work atmosphere, therefore, an enthusiastic, well organized “people person” is essential to this position.
An Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
3 years demonstrated experience working in the field of OH&S
CRSP and/or CHSC Designation (Considered to be a strong asset)
College or University diploma or degree in OH&S, Certificate in Adult Education
A working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canada Labour Code and WSIB requirements
Exceptional interpersonal & communication skills
Advanced presentation and written skills
Ability to facilitate most or all of the following programs. Training will be provided for programs that the successful candidate does not have experience in as needed:
Joint Health and Safety Basic Certification (Part 1 & 2)
Lift Truck, Aerial Platform, Overhead Crane
WHMIS & TDG
Confined Space Awareness, Emergency Response
LOTO, Fall Protection & Respirator Awareness with Fit Testing Procedures
Note: Candidates must have proven experience delivering a WSIB-approved Basic Certification and Part Two: Hazard Specific training
Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducting Health and Safety training
Provide leadership for the development and implementation of H&S policies and procedures
Provide H&S management consultation and direction to management
Consulting with clients regarding H&S matters
Conducting OH&S assessments and audits
Consulting with our sales & marketing department on client requirements
This is not an opportunity for employment however a chance for a business-minded, self-employed safety professional to represent a leader in the industry. The successful candidate must be self-employed and provide a calendar of availability for work scheduling. All training programs and participant manuals along with other documentation will be provided to the successful candidate. The successful candidate will represent our client in a professional manner at all times and will be required to enter into a ‘Non-Solicitation’ agreement. The successful candidate will provide invoicing to HASCO upon completion of assigned work. All travelling expenses within the region will be the responsibility of the successful candidate along with supplying a reliable laptop and projector. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be fluent in English.
