Good afternoon.
My client has a number of workers that are required to travel to remote locations to repair site trailers. They travel alone. There are usually others on site when the are performing their actual work which could range from replacing a television to installing a new stove or fridge. There is not always cell phone coverage. Below is what they are proposing to do to account for their workers and comply with the legislation. I have an opinion, but wanted to pose the question to the group to ensure that all aspects of the issue are considered. Thanks in advance for your opinions.
In these instances, they were going to implement “the spot” technology. Apparently, this unit is linked to google earth. The person with the spot device can send pre set messages (i.e. I am on site, I am safe, I am injured etc.) It does not allow for verbal communication – just these pre-set texts. The information would be relayed to their on-call person (the specifics would need to be worked out as to how often the on call person would have to check for information from the off site person etc.). While the on call person cannot communicate directly with the person off site verbally or text their own words/specifics to get their location – they could apparently find them through google earth….do you think that would be reasonable?
He was also thinking that they may go to Chevrolet’s with On Star as an option.
