Responsibilities
Golder Associates Ltd. (GAL) is currently recruiting for a National Health and Safety Leader to be based in one of the following office locations: Vancouver, Calgary, Mississauga or Montreal. This opportunity will be responsible for the implementation of an effective program to prevent work-related illness and injuries, and to minimize employee exposure to hazardous substances and/or situations in the workplace. The successful candidate will act on behalf of the President to establish corporate wide health and safety procedures that align with our management system to support the implementation of those requirements. Additional responsibilities may include, but not be limited to the following:
Championing Health and Safety programs in GAL
Liaising with Principals and Associates to ensure their satisfaction and understanding of Health & Safety initiatives
Providing guidance and support to the respective Region and Office Managers in implementing the GAL Health & Safety Management System within the region
Aligning Health & Safety systems with provincial standards/requirements
Communicating regularly with Health & Safety Coordinators regarding progress and new initiatives
Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety initiatives and practices
Mentoring of the Office Health & Safety Coordinators
Supporting the regional leaders with regards to the Health & Safety training of our employees
Providing guidance in conducting investigations
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Health & Safety, Engineering or Sciences
Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation or working towards meeting eligibility requirements
High commitment to safe work practices
10+ years combined experience in Health & Safety, engineering and/or sciences
Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
Strong problem solver with the ability to identify alternative solutions
The ability to work both strategically and operationally
Self starter and highly motivated
Available for business travel and extended hours of work, when required
Valid driver’s licence
