Notice of Vacancy -Position of President, CCOHS
The role of the President is to promote the fundamental right of Canadians to a healthy and safe working environment, to effectively manage and lead the institution, and to work closely with the Council of Governors to identify and advance strategic priorities. The President also acts as chief executive officer of the organization. In this capacity, he/she has supervision over and direction of the work and staff of the Centre and is also the chairperson of the executive board.
Candidates must possess a degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study or a combination of equivalent education, job-related training and experience in one or more relevant disciplines related to the field of OHS. A graduate degree in a relevant discipline would be an asset.
Candidates should possess excellent leadership and managerial abilities and should have the ability to devise innovative and effective solutions for a broad range of OHS needs. The ability to provide intellectual and strategic organizational leadership in order to help an institution develop and promote its vision and to define its objectives and strategies is required, as are superior communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to act as spokesperson in dealing with stakeholders, media, public institutions, governments, the public, and other organizations. Candidates must also be able to lead the organization, its stakeholders and other significant organizations to advance occupational health and safety in Canada.
Candidates must also have executive-level leadership and management experience in a private or public sector organization, including managing human and financial resources. They should also have experience in dealing with senior-level officials in the federal, provincial and territorial governments as well as experience developing and fostering productive relationships with non-governmental organizations and stakeholders. They must also have experience in the identification, development and marketing of new revenue generating or cost recovery business lines.
Candidates should have knowledge of the mandate and role of CCOHS in addition to knowledge of national and international OHS laws, standards, policies and best practices. Significant technical expertise in the field of OHS is required. Knowledge of the public policy environment and processes would be an asset.
Candidates must possess tact and discretion, be fair and impartial and adhere to high ethical standards. Sound judgment, integrity and superior interpersonal skills are also required.
Proficiency in both official languages would be strongly preferred.
The chosen candidate must be willing to relocate to Hamilton, Ontario. He/she must also be willing to travel throughout Canada and internationally, to conduct and attend meetings with a variety of stakeholders.
