Cigarette Butt Disposal

A maintenance company is responsible for cleaning the common areas and emptying the outside cigarette receptacles, the butts are placed with the rest of the garbage in the compactor.

Does anyone use water to ensure the butts are safe to place in the garbage? (I know this will also cause a smelly & dirty mess.)

Hi there,

For the most part, the only ones that use water are the stand alone versions that sit on the ground with a long neck to toss the cigarettes into.

For the wall-mounted ones, we have several staff who monitor it and have had smouldering fires and smoke come out of them and had to dump water into them.

It is gross and smelly but beats having a fire to deal with.
