A union contract is a written agreement between the employer and the union representing the employees. It sets out the provisions of employment such as the wages, hours of work, job security, benefits, occupational health and safety (OHS), etc. Generally, when you ask the employer, the OHS professional, and the union about what OHS issues should be covered and how, there is no general consensus. So what then?

Come and learn about the best practices of integrating OH&S issues into union contract agreements from the employer and union perspectives. Graham Walsh is an associate in the Advocacy Department of Gowlings' Toronto office, practicing in the areas of employment and labour law with a focus on occupational health and safety and workers’ compensation matters. Graham will be the guest speaker for the October meeting and he’ll discuss the best practices of integrating OH&S issues into union contract agreements; group discussion is to follow.
