COMPANY PROFILE
The G22 Health Care Safety Association is a non-profit safety association that has been established to service the health care industry in Saskatchewan. The membership will include any health care employers that pay premiums to the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) under the G22 rate code.
In all, the G22 Healthcare Safety Association will have over 500 member firms representing 35,000 unionized employees (represented by 7 unions) and approximately 3,000 non-union employees. Member firms range from large hospitals to private care homes located in large urban centers, small towns and rural locales.
The purpose of the safety association is to assist the industry in reducing workplace injuries by providing injury prevention strategies, programs and services. The association will accomplish this via a number of methods including: training initiatives, in-house consulting directly to member firms and auditing programs.
The association will be funded by dues that are paid by member firms to the WCB but will collaborate with the other eight safety associations in Saskatchewan in order to share and facilitate knowledge transfer where appropriate.
Currently the association is in a purely “green-field” state and as such requires an accomplished leader to set-up, run and lead the organization going forward.
POSITION PROFILE
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is accountable for the overall strategic and operational direction of the organization through development, planning, organizing, managing, monitoring and evaluating.
The position will be located in Saskatchewan. The exact location of the office has yet to be determined but will likely be in either Regina or Saskatoon. There will also be considerable travel throughout the province of Saskatchewan.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute the Strategic Plan to meet the objectives and mandate of the organization.
- Assist the Board in achieving the mission, goals and objectives of the region, through the establishment of operational planning, key initiatives, priority setting, including appropriate reporting.
- Development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of the annual operating and capital budgets.
- Establish priorities as they relate to the provision and delivery of required and needed services and programs.
- Development and maintenance of key relationships and partnerships, including, but not limited to: Worker's Compensation Board, government departments, other safety associations and industry associations, and unions.
- Recruitment, retention, and management of staff and/or contractors.
- Developing, implementing and evaluating policies and procedures as they relate to the effective and efficient operation of services and programs.
- Development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of quality improvement, utilization and injury prevention management initiatives and programs.
- Advocacy and representation of behalf of the G22 industry.
- Job-related personal growth, development and competency through participation in courses, workshops and/or conferences.
- Other duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned, to promote and achieve the mandate of the organization.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensure the efficient and effective direction, control and coordination of the organization by providing leadership and guidance.
- Provide recommendations and make decisions regarding long range planning, program development and coordination.
- Initiate, develop, update and enforce implementation of sound programs, services, policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain close liaisons with the members, including external agencies for purposes of achieving the organization’s mission, vision and values.
- Ensure fiscal responsibility for the operation of the organization by meeting budgetary requirements and adjusting operations to ensure that budgets are met.
- Provide accurate and timely information, recommendations and/or services.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished individual who possesses considerable leadership qualities and talent and experience in working in a complex member driven organization. Ideally the successful candidate will have held a senior leadership role in a comparable safety organization or a senior Health and Safety role within a large health care entity or health related organization.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in a “green-field” situation where development of programs as well as the establishment of an organizations infrastructure will be created from the “ground up” while building on successful initiatives currently in place.
The Executive Director will possess superior people skills which will enable him/her to forge strong working relationships with all stakeholders across the province. The incumbent will possess a high degree of diplomacy and tact which will allow him/her to operate effectively in a sometimes public environment and should possess a consensus building management style.
Finally the Executive Director will possess overall General Management skills allowing him/her to manage the day to day operation of an organization including hiring of staff, budgeting, planning and establishment of the organization’s technology infrastructure.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post secondary education in Business Administration/Commerce or other relevant health related education.
- Recognized professional safety designation or certification would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and leading a department or organization in a safety related field.
- Experience in a non-profit, health care setting would be highly desirable.
- Should possess the ability to develop strategic plans and execute them successfully.
- Proven ability to develop relationships in a complex multi-stakeholder environment.
- Experience dealing with a Board of Directors would be an asset.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a unionized environment is a must.
- The ideal candidate should have some experience with developing and managing budgets.
- Proven leadership, administrative, and organizational skills and ability.
- Knowledge of leading practices in the safety environment, including regulations.
- Ability to develop, implement and monitor operational plans.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, consultative manner.
- The ability to travel extensively as required.
