I got hired by ______________ on Wednesday September 30, 2009
At my interview I asked if the company was suppling uniforms. I was told “yes”.
Two weeks later I asked my supervisor “do you have an idea when I will get my uniforms”?
My supervisor replied “It’s usually only after 3 months but since I like you, you will get them before”
It’s been 4 months and still nothing. All my personal work uniforms are ruined with canola oil stain and smell.
On my first day, I met the owner. He told me that he hires smart people to work for him, and then he asked me if I was familiar with preventive maintenance softwares. I answered that I worked with a few and that I also established preventive maintenance procedures and code of practice for other companies. He then told me to ask the plant manager and the maintenance supervisor about the software. I asked the plant manager about it and he didn’t seem to shure. He told me to talk to the maintenance supervisor in regards to the software. When I did ask the maintenance supervisor his reply was “you are not hired to do that, the software is custom made for _______________”.
I was told not to cross any borders by the maintenance supervisor. (Possibly for the above)
I’ve been told to wear safety glasses when I was using the angle grinder only to find out later on the same day that my supervisor was grinding without safety glasses. When I asked him “aren’t we supposed to wear our safety glasses?” his reply was “who is your boss” then I replied “my boss is the one who told me earlier that we have to wear safety glasses when we are grinding”. Not to mention no safety guard.
My supervisor kept changing my schedule at last minute calling me on my cellphone. I reminded him that my wife had a heart attact in October and we are scheduling her doctor’s appointment with my days off, I also asked him not to call my cellphone because it’s was costing me long distance. Instead, call my home phone, I have unlimited long distance on that one.
On Wednesday, December 09, 2009 my supervisor informed me that the company had bought some small equipment (lab) in Montreal and that the owner e-mailed him suggesting sending me there in a rented van to take out as much as possible. That he will hire in Montreal 2 helpers for me. The reason why they selected me is because I speak French. We would like this done ASAP.
I told my supervisor that it shouldn’t be a problem.
Then I asked “what do I have to load? Where do I drop? Do you have pictures?”
His answer was “I will ask the plant manager tomorrow”
On Thursday December 10, 2009 I sent an e-mail to the owner.
Do you have any information in regards to Montreal?
I need to know which tools I will need to do the job efficiently.
The owner response was “Not yet. I will set this up for next week”
On Monday December 15, 2009 my supervisor showed me the pictures of the equipment that needs to be moved. I told him “this is not a lab, it’s a bakery, and there is no way that all this equipment would fit in a Van”.
His reply was “let’s talk with the plant manager”
We went in the plant manager office and we started to talk about how we are going to do this.
According to the plant manager:
I was to rent a van to go to Montreal, book a hotel room and pay for gas, for there and back and I was to put it on my personnal credit card and I was to be reimbursed when I got back.
When I reach Montreal, I was to make the arrangements with a moving company to move the heavy equipment and load all the light stuff in the van. I replied”I’ll think about it”
On Friday December 18, 2009 at 20:21:39 I sent an e-mail to the owner stating what the plant manager suggested and I also asked “Does the company have a credit card that I can use?” I never got a reply. I talked to my wife and started to calculate the cost that I would have to put on my credit card. Then I called the plant manager to let him know that I had no choice than to decline.
The list goes on an on.
I have to travel from Milton to Concord back and forth every day which I believe that shows that I am determined to work.
Since I started working there, I cut, bruised, scratched and burned myself without complaints.
I was honest about the metal found in both of my hands at the time of the accident.
I tried to achieve the racking project till the end regardless of a shortage of man power and safety till the pain became unbearable.
I didn’t use company time to go see the doctor and get x-rays done.
I find it very frustrating, confusing and stressful that I have to deal with all these issues in silence in order to keep my job. The job is stressful enough as is.
All I want is to performed my duties and be proud of a job well done without any head games.

Yes, I am sending my resume but my problem is that my finger is still swollen and is still hurting and i"m afraid that due to my job (industrial maintenance mechanic) I might make it worst since I need both hands to perform my job. I am in a "damn if I do, damn if I don't" situation.
