Manager
Occupational Health and Safety

The Manager, Occupational Health and Safety, will lead the Occupational Health and Safety Program for the hospital ensuring that occupational health and safety needs of the employee and the employer are met, including all legislated requirements, and work with the management team to ensure that occupational health and safety is integrated into daily management practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
· Ensures the organization is fully compliant with all relevant legislation relating to OH & S.
· Identifies and implements changes necessary to respond to relevant new legislative requirements.
· Oversees the Modified Work Program to meet legislative, collective bargaining and financial requirements and acts as the Hospital representative in these matters.
· Ensures appropriate tracking and reporting of WSIB claims, employee sick time and to ensure proper billing and expenditures through NEER.
· Acts as liaison with Ministry of Labour for all inspections and follow-up as required.
· Develops, implements and monitors health and wellness programs for staff.
· Provides committee/task force leadership and serves as an active participant on other committees representing the health and safety needs of both employees and employer.
· Supervises all staff assigned to the Occupational Health and Safety Department.
· Provides senior management with regular reports on NEER surcharge/rebate status.
· Ensures that the department is supporting an effective attendance support program.
· Implements, coordinates and oversees the hospital-wide Occupational Health and Safety Program
THIS POSITION REQUIRES:
· Baccalaureate degree in a Health Profession or completion of a University program in Occupational Health and Safety.
· Occupational Health and Safety Certification (CRSP, COHN-C or equivalent)
· Registration with the appropriate professional College.
· 5 years experience in Health and Safety with at least 2 years in an Acute Care Hospital Environment.
· 2 years Leadership experience with preference for healthcare management experience.
· Thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code.
· Experience interpreting and applying relevant legislation; as well as demonstrated knowledge of union contracts
· Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and Long Term Disability programs.
· Demonstrated knowledge of software applications in Microsoft Office.
