Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Consultant – Gowlings
Full time position, Calgary, Alberta
Norm Keith, B.A., LL.B., CRSP, who leads a national team of lawyers and OHS consultants to provide clients with training, consulting and legal services is looking to fill the position of an Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Consultant, with a minimum of five years of work experience, to join our national OHS Team. JOB DESCRIPTION
· Provide OHS consulting services to clients in Alberta and across Canada in a variety of industries
· Develop and provide OHS and workers’ compensation training to the public and clients
· Respond to client inquiries regarding OHS and workers’ compensation matters
· Assist clients with the development and implementation of effective and sustainable OHS and workers’ compensation management systems
· Represent clients before the workers’ compensation board, including participating in appeals
· Conduct health and safety compliance audits to assess workplace conformance with legislative requirements
· Provide litigation support by conducting witness interviews and investigations and conducting assessments of evidence in prosecutions under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
· Assist with the above in other jurisdictions outside of Alberta where required
· Assist with the development and revision of courses and services
· Work as a member of a national team providing excellent client service, helping to grow the existing practice, including liaising with industry groups and associations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
· A relevant University level degree
· Minimum of five years of related experience
· Superior knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code
· Good working knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act and Operational Policies
· Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills
· Entrepreneurial flare and business development skills
· OHS training experience and a passion for training
· Experience with workers’ compensation claims management, objections and appeals
· Must be eligible to work in Canada
· Willingness to travel throughout Canada and has valid driver’s license
Preferred:
· Bilingual in English and French (written and verbal)
· Experience conducting audits (i.e. Workwell, OHSAS 18001, etc.)
· Current Canadian Registered Safety Professional and/or Certified Health and Safety Consultant
· Current member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering
· Knowledge of application of OHS and workers’ compensation laws in other jurisdictions, including the Canada Labour Code – Part II
