Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Coordinator
Greater Toronto Area
As an Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordination of all Health, Safety and Environmental facets within our manufacturing environment. This will include; the development of policies, procedures and training for Health, Safety and Environment, ensuring compliance with Legislative Requirements, Health Claims Management (WSIB, STD and LTD), Accident Investigations, Health Promotion, Health & Safety Committee Meetings, Record-Keeping, Trend Analysis and other assigned projects.
Critical Success Areas:
Compliance with Legislative Requirements
Ensures updated changes to legislative requirements are communicated and makes changes if necessary
Develops and recommends best practices, policies, procedures and programs related to Health, Safety and Environment
Health Claims Management (WSIB, STD and LTD)
Investigates all incident/accidents and prepares reports to management.
Analyzes incident/accident statistics and makes recommendations to prevent reoccurrence
Completes necessary forms for claims management. Ensures they are provided to WSIB or Benefits Provider on a timely basis
Ensures an integrated approach to the prevention of workplace accidents and injuries
Coordinates successful return to work arrangements, in conjunction with external resources (WSIB and Benefits Provider), Supervisor and Employee
Coordinating Plant Safety:
Conducts regular audits to ensure safety procedures are being followed and to identify unforeseen hazards
Ensures emergency evacuation procedures are performed and documented
Identifies areas for improvement and makes recommendations to appropriate management and staff
Health & Safety Training:
Facilitates and coordinates relevant training and related materials
Maintains training records and ensures proper recertification training is updated when necessary
Health Promotion:
Develops and/or recommends policies, procedures and training to continuously reduce the number of incidences of workplace illness and injury and to meet necessary compliance requirements to create a safe, healthy work environment
Promotes and develops workplace wellness policies and programs. Works in conjunction with our EAP provider to offer appropriate support and assistance to associates who are experiencing personal or health-related problems
Coordinates Health & Safety Committee Meetings:
Certified Member that organizes and leads the Joint Health & Safety Committee with organization of meetings, agendas and minutes
Coordinates Monthly Inspections: schedules, coordinates and maintains records and follow-up of workplace inspections
Responsible for coordinating action plans to address any safety audit deficiencies
Provides advice to supervisors and managers on methods and approaches to resolve issues
Qualifications:
A post secondary education coupled with additional training and certification in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment
Possession of a professional safety designation (CSSE, CRSP) would be an asset
5-7 years of progressive experience in a Manufacturing environment
Thorough knowledge of all related health and safety legislation including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Environment and Industrial Regulations
Excellent planning, organization and implementation skills are essential
An organized self starter with a high energy level
Advanced computer applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
