Greetings everyone,
Let me be the second to introduce myself. I'm a Joint Health and Safety Committee Certified Worker Representative (whew, what a mouthful :)) for an engineering firm where I am a Senior Design Technician. I work on a variety of projects in many different manufacturing/industrial settings including health and safety related work.

I have enjoyed the e-mail discussions and am looking forward to this site being a gathering place for all the great minds that participated in the list and new ones that may not have been able to follow the e-mail threads. Thanks for all the effort!

Cheers,

Hi All

My name is Sarah and I've been working in the fields of ergonomics, and occupational health and safety for the past 3 years.

Since I got into this field, I've really enjoyed reading the daily emails off the CCOHS mailing list, however I think this Workscape is definitely an improvement. Good job to all, who made it happen. It will definitely improve everyone's enjoyment and participation in the exchanging of OHS ideas and best practices and there is so much potential. The best part, we get to search and access material more easily and be able to network with each other more effectively.

Have a safe day at work and in life all.

Cheers

Hello All
I’m looking forward to participating in this new opportunity to share our ideas and thoughts.

A little bit of who I am and what I do…

I’ve been a CRSP since 1985 and have worked in the OHS field for the past three decades. Lately I spend my time writing, teaching, conference presenting and consulting in a wide variety of industries all over North America. In 2005 I wrote my first book “The Emperor Has No Hard Hat – Achieving REAL Workplace Safety Results”. I’m a regular columnist for the Canadian Occupational Safety magazine http://www.cos-mag.com/ and The Business of Contracting http://www.thebusinessofcontracting.com/

I’ve been a course developer and instructor at both the University of Alberta’s OHS Certificate Program and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology’s OHS Diploma Program. My company provides a CRSP Examination Preparation Workshop to help budding CRSP be successful with their challenging the BCRSP’s exam.

Hi Everyone and Happy 2009 to All!

My name is Ed Gordon and I am new to Workscape and think this is a great forum for ideas and safety-related matters.

I am the Health and Safety/WSIB Advisor for the Town of Ajax and have been here for about a year.

At the Town, I conduct Workplace Safety Training, provide support to four JHSCs, implement and train on new Safety Policies and Procedures, run the WSIB Claims, Return To Work Program, Disability Management, and am to be taking over our AED Program and Wellness/EAP Program as well.

Whew! That's a lot but it is great and my learning curve is off the charts!

I could never go back to doing just Workers' Comp and related matters as in my past.

Prior to coming on board with the Town, I worked for Ryder Canada as their National Claims Advisor for approx. 3 years, been a Claims Management/Return To Work/Disability Management/Workplace Safety Specialist for many consulting firms and a prior WSIB Claims Adjudicator.

I have been in the Workplace Safety Industry for approximately 11 years now and love what I do (I have actually been asked how I have not become cynical by being in the field for as long as I have been).

Anyhoo ... just wanted to introduce myself and look forward in participating and feel free to send me a message.

Cheers!

Ed Gordon

Welcome to Workscape, Loreen! Glad to have you onboard.

Just FYI - you can also send a private message to Owen by clicking on his user name (wherever he's posted) and choosing the option to Send a Private Message:

http://www.workscape.ca/private.php?do=newpm&u=110

After you write your message, click "Submit Message" and he will be notified via e-mail that he's got a private message waiting for him at Workscape. Only he can see it.

He can reply to you via private message (and likewise you'll receive an e-mail that he's replied to you w/a private message).

Hope you find this helpful. :fingers-crossed:

I have heard the BCIT program is a very good one. Nice for you to be able to attend rather than doing distance so that you can meet others taking the same courses.

Are you doing safety work in the health profession?

Hi Sausan,
Thanks for the reply. However, due to my survival job, I have to take distance course of BCIT. Being outside of the classroom and starting study after such a long time,it is a bit challenge. I may expect some support from the group when stuck some where.:)

I have a Masters degree in Chemistry and post grad diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology. Most of my recent experience is in BC's pharmaceutical industry where I worked in the Quality Assurance and Quality Control departments. Here, I had limited exposure to Occupational Health and Safety because of work in research labs and general facilities.
Being unemployed for 18 months, I enrolled in this certification program in search of a new career with a positive employment outlook.

Thanks again!

Hi Susan,
Have you done the same course from BCIT via distance education? If yes, I would appreciate if you can give me some tips to go through it. We do not have any student group and studying alone looks difficult in the beginning.

G'Day Everyone,

I found your forum while searching for some info on warehouse pallet racking systems and thought I would join in provided you don't mind another Australian involved.

I have been in the safety profession for about 12 years now in a variety of industries (construction, government, coal mining, trainer / consultant) and am presently the H&S Advisor for a Power Station in South Western Queensland.

Browsing through the topics it appears that H&S management isn't very much different no matter what country you are from so I hope I can contribute.

Regards
