The July issue of the Health & Safety Report has been distributed. Highlights include:

Avoiding Harm on the Farm
Farming is a way of life for many Canadian families - and one of the most hazardous occupations. Agriculture has the highest rate of disabling injuries and farmers are five times more likely to die from work-related injuries than workers in all other industries. If you, or someone you care about is a farmer, learn about the hazards of working with farm equipment and tractors, and how to reduce the risk of injury.

Research Shows "Newness" Means Greater Risk
When it comes to work-related injury, "newness" can mean higher risk. This is just one of the topics explored in a new series of "Issue Briefings" launched by the Institute for Work & Health (IWH).

Hazard Alert: Pipes Under Pressure
After testing the welds on two pressurized pipes, a young worker was struck by a valve that shot off the pipe as he was dismantling the testing device. The pipes had not been depressurized and the young worker died as a result of the injuries he sustained. WorkSafeBC issued an alert with safe work practices.
