Contract starting August 2009 until March 2010 (likely to be extended)

Salary Range: $58,332 - $72,915 annually ( Payband: 9)
Location: 1960 Eglinton Ave

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety, Health and Wellness, the Health and Safety Supervisor provides guidance in the development and implementation of Health and Safety systems to establish a safety culture at Centennial College. This position will play an integral role in the establishment of a long term safety culture, will assign and monitor work of Health and Safety Coordinators.

Duties:
• Develop and implement Health and Safety compliance systems, policies, procedures, practices, guidelines, standards, tools and materials
• Coordinate and ensure administration of required project specific health and safety management systems to ensure safe work areas and processes by inspecting, investigating and directing procedures associated with maintenance, operations and contracted work
• Communicate regularly with managers, coordinators on health and safety issues
• Implement the safety audit process, ensuring compliance with regulatory codes, regulations and instruments
• Work with the Joint Health and Safety committees on development and implementation of Health and Safety systems, tools, materials and identifying safety issues at sites
• Review accident and incident investigation reports and advise on prevention and corrective measures
• Ensure compliance with all environmental, health and safety Provincial and Federal regulations
• Conduct and evaluate Job Safety Analysis
• Direct and actively participate in ongoing, proactive employee education; to promote health and safety policies and procedures as well as to develop and deliver safety training programs
• Maintain a working knowledge of federal or related codes and regulations on workplace safety, attend legal proceedings on behalf of the College as required and represent the College to Government officials eg. Ministry of Labour
• Attend legal proceedings on behalf of the college as required and meet with Ministry of Labour inspectors while on site.

Qualifications/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and / or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Demonstrated recent experience in development and implementation of Health and Safety programs preferably in an educational institution setting
• Thorough knowledge of OH&S, OHSA, Provincial and Federal regulations as well as working knowledge of WSIB rules and regulations
• Team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications
• Related safety certifications including First Aid, CPR, forklift, confined space, fall arrest, and WHMIS would be an asset
• Experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment
