Position Title: H&S/HR Reports to: HR Manager, Operations
Industry: Manufacturer (food), unionized Location: Mississauga
Compensation: Salary 55K - 58K, plus 8% bonus (based on Co. performance)
Position Summary
This position is responsible to maintain positive labour relations and enhance organizational and employee effectiveness in the area of Health & Safety. The HR/H&S Advisor will work collaboratively with employees, supervisors and managers to proactively support, develop, implement and lead programs and services to enhance safety and employee engagement, while complying with legislative and company requirements. Build a positive collaborative relationship with the workforce through proactive Employee/Labour Relations.
Major Duties
Health & Safety:
* Provide H&S advisory services and ensure compliance of company programs, policies and procedures with OHSA, WSIA, and other pertinent H&S legislation and best practices
* Assist in the enhancement and maintenance of a comprehensive and proactive H&S
program and safety initiatives
* Assist with investigations of all workplace injuries, incidents and accidents
* Coordinate monthly Workplace Safety Inspections
* Maintain accident reporting system and work in conjunction with Production/Operations to identify root causes to initiate corrective action and ensure preventative measures are in place
* Claims Management - complete required WSIB Forms, liaise with the WSIB and coordinate return to work for occupational injuries (including follow up with employee, WSIB and medical professional) to ensure Timely Return to Work and cost containment
* Collect, analyse and maintain safety data related to WSIB; identify trends and produce
required reports and/or statistics
* Co-chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee and follow-up on issues
* Conduct and/or coordinate all H&S training (including New Employee Safety Orientation) and maintain accurate and update training records
* Ensure the maintenance and proper implementation of the Emergency Response Plan
* Audit accident, incident, JHSC Inspection reports to ensure closure of required actions
* Work with Engineering/Maintenance to assess new/relocated equipment, machinery and substances for safety hazards
Human Resources
* Acts as the first point of contact for labour relations issues for the hourly workforce
* Support the HR Manager, Operations on labour/employee relations issues
* Proactively liaise with production supervisors to ensure proper handling of labour relations issues so as to avoid complaints and grievances
* Coach and advise frontline supervisors and managers in the handling of grievances and complaints
* Ensure that all issues are properly investigated and that decisions taken are consistent with the Collective Agreement; recommend appropriate Discipline, as required
* Assist production supervisors in the handling of 1st and 2nd step grievances
* Provide guidance to employees on the interpretation of the Collective Agreement, Human Resources and Health & Safety Policies
* Coordinate hourly probationary review reports with Supervisors/Managers
* Assist with the Attendance Management Program and make recommendations on
appropriate action required to ensure compliance
* The duties and responsibilities outlined above are representative but not all inclusive
Position Qualifications
* Post-secondary degree/diploma in Human Resources and/or Occupational Health & Safety required
* CRSP or CHRP designation attained or in progress an asset
* 3-5 years solid H&S and HR experience in a unionized environment, preferably in the manufacturing industry
* Sound knowledge of applicable legislation - OH&S, ESA, Human Rights, WSIB
Legislation required
* Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast
paced environment
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) is required
* Strong investigative, analytical, human relations and communications skills
* Computer proficiency (word, excel, power point, outlook)
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism is a must
* Able to work with minimum supervision
* Flexible to work between locations in the GTA
60% H&S related duties. Will train on the HR piece.
