Health and Safety Coordinator


1year Contract

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
Reporting to the Human Resources Officer, the Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for the ongoing assessment, development and administration of CVC’s Health and Safety program, promoting awareness and a culture of Health and Safety within the organization.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
· 1 - 2 years related work experience
· Post-secondary education in Health and Safety or related field
· Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation an asset
· Sound knowledge of Ontario Health and Safety Act as well as policies and practices in the Occupational Health and Safety field
· Excellent customer service and strong verbal and written communication skills
· Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
· Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
· Strong analytical skills
· Knowledge and/or experience with Conservation Authorities an asset
· Able to travel to sites not serviced by public transit.


SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS
Perform the following tasks under limited direction.
1. Working with CVC staff and an external Health and Safety Consultant, develop and deliver the CVC Health and Safety Program, including policies and procedures.
2. Provide technical advice and guidance to staff and management regarding interpretation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as other related Health and Safety legislation and guidelines
3. Organize, coordinate and supervise health and safety training programs, while working with Supervisors and Directors to implement and support such programs.
4. Coordinate the work of and collaborate with the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC). This includes coordinating, attending and providing administrative support for JHSC meetings.
5. Coordinate the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) development process for the organization, providing guidance to staff on the process as well as Health and Safety implications for all SOP’s.
6. Perform Job Hazard Analysis for all workplaces and processes as needed.
7. Purchase and distribute required health and safety equipment and supplies as needed.
8. Maintain accurate records of employee and public accidents and injuries that occur on CVC properties and prepare summaries for JHSC and Senior Management Team.
9. Participate in internal as well as public-related accident and incident investigations as needed.
10. Ensure that all CVC locations have up-to-date health and safety information and resources.
11. Perform other duties as required to contribute to and achieve the objectives of CVC.
