Just got back from one night at Sandbanks Provincial Park. 20+ bug bites, 2 rainshowers, and 3.6 hours of sleep later, I am wondering why we go camping. :curse:

My idea of camping is to go to a hotel to rough it! No way am I sleeping on the ground (too old!)

Maybe you need to drink more  to help you sleep :p

we used to camp when i was a kid and we always slept in a tent trailer...camping in style, eh?! was the only way to go.

since then, i'm more of a cabin-in-the-woods camper...up north, we call cottages "camps" and camping "tenting," which most sensible northerners only do if we have to (for work, ususally).

We camp to get away from it all!!? To see the stars? To be at one with nature...no?? And at least for me, it's to see how long I can survive in the wilderness with the least amount of gear as possible.

Hopefully at the end of the day the bug bites are worth it.

Ahhh, the Sand Banks. My old haunt of too many years gone by. Too many high school camp parties and way too many headaches. Glad I grew up ??? LOL.

Summer or winter, camping (tenting) is the way to go!!! I take every chance that I can get to escape the nasties of the city, sirens, trucks, and general mayhem. Everybody racing against the clock going I dont know where at break neck speeds. Yecht!!!!

A boil up on a crisp winters eve with a clear sky and stars so close that you can almost reach up and touch is my idea of living. Time has no meaning, and nothing to rush for. The senses seem to kick into high gear and sounds not noticed before are more prevelant than ever. If very quiet and still, the amount of wildlife will amaze you. I find the camping experience summer or winter refreshing, renewing and invigorating.

Remember when camping...... leave no footprint of your visit. PACK OUT WHAT YOU PACK IN!!!

We used to do alot of camping, pack up the old tent and take off. Now we have a trailer on a leased lot at the lake...not really roughing it anymore but still it's very relaxing.

I've done a lot of camping in the last couple of years but I have to admit some years are a lot better than others. The year before last it rained 13 out of 14 camping days and only got nice on the day we had to pack up and leave. Last year it was freezing at night and the campground didn't get warm until 11 am in the morning. I deserve the crystal awards (http://www.abletrophies.com/) for stupidity for picking a tenting spot in a mountain valley. The thing is, it's a beautiful spot (Cathedral Park, BC, Canada) and very inexpensive to camp at. I can understand why people spend thousands of dollars on RV's (to stay comfortable) but when you consider that you will probably only be able to use it two to three weeks out of the year, the expense doesn't seem justified.

I think perhaps, at a certain age, camping just isn't that much fun anymore.

Location does make a difference! We had the privilege of camping in NZ a couple of years ago, and many of the conservation campgrounds operated by the NZ government were nestled in absolutely breathtaking settings. Here is one stunning example - this was Purakaunui Bay in the Catlins region of the South Island.

That beach is absolutely stunning! You're fortunate to be able to camp there. I've been so busy this year that I haven't had any time to camp at all. I've had to do a lot of repairs to my home, including new roofing and I just haven't been able to get away (Poor moi).
