New member here...
I'm with the OHS Division NS. This site has great potential.

Anyhow back to the issue at hand. Got this today in my update from the IRRST. I'll make some posts once I've read it:

Research release from the IRSST: "When we are deterred by what others think"

Here's an exerpt of the press release:

Rehabilitation... "is exacerbated when their pain is called into question. In such case, workers put their energy into resolving this problem (others doubting them), rather than coming up with concrete strategies for returning to work. Therefore, those who are supported and believed get a head start and, during the rehabilitation process, they set clearer goals oriented toward the resumption of occupational activities".

I'd agree that "rehabilitation is exaccerbated" when pain is called into the question. As a Kinesiologist specializing in Occupational services I see the cause and effect from client perception/behaviour and the effect a practioner can have on dealing with a patient's subjective pain complaints. Symptoms are subjective and clinical.....they are addressed with the aid of the therapist and the more that therapist acknowledges without "alarming" the client's symptoms, I've found the more likely that client will be willing/able to participate in a safe and successful return to work program.

I'll comment more when I also get a chance to read the 114 pages.....unless someone wants to summarize it LOL
