Enhanced Biocontainment Research Coordinator
The Department of Environmental Health & Safety invites applications for an Enhanced Biocontainment Research Coordinator. Reporting to the University of Alberta Biosafety Officer, the Biocontainment Coordinator will manage and coordinate biocontainment level 3 and prion research facilities operated by the University of Alberta.
This position is responsible for providing training on biohazards and procedures that mitigate associated risks. To ensure awareness across campus, the Biocontainment Coordinator will interact professionally and credibly with faculty, staff, students, and industry and provide leadership to integrate and accommodate new research projects into the enhanced biocontainment facilities. The successful candidate will also monitor and document facility processes to ensure compliance with all levels of jurisdictional policies and procedures.
Ideal candidates will possess a PhD in Microbiology or a closely related discipline and possess at least three years post-doctoral laboratory experience with infectious materials and/or biohazardous agents. Supervisory ability and good communication and teaching skills are essential. Previous experience in a biocontainment 3 or prion research facility and knowledge of biosafety principles, policies and practices, and research grant experience at the University level are definite assets.
This full-time Administrative Professional Officer position offers a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $52,726 to $83,484. Please submit a cover letter and resume no later than March 4, 2009.
