POSITION TITLE: Workplace Safety and Health Officer

POSITION OVERVIEW:
He/She will provide management and employees, within the assigned division, with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) services and programs. Provides specialist advice and guidance to Head Office, Plant and divisional management in the interpretation, application and administration of; Canada Labour Code, Provincial Occupational Health, Safety and Environment legislation standards, practices, and Corporate directives and policies. Promote the development and maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment consecutive to operations, administrative and service efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Co-ordinate and provide WSH technical guidance and professional services to employees of a highly labour intensive, mechanized and politically sensitive work environment.
Administer and provide a complete range of services to employees in accordance with Federal and Provincial regulations, legislations and Corporate policy.
Act as a resource officer to management, supervisors, and employees in the provision of these services. Monitor and evaluate equipment processes and programs and conduct analysis of statistical data for management review.
Maintain functional information systems, identify; trends, performance indicators and strategies for continuous improvement while assessing compliance and cost implications.
Plan, develop, conduct and assess training and information programs and sessions for employees.
Plan and develop strategies to resolve health, safety and environmental issues. Audit surveys and analyse work facilities, equipment practices and methods noting loss experience/potential and corrective actions required.
Resolve contentious issues and complex problems, in many instances requiring close contact with union representatives or government officials
Provide professional advice and counsel to managers and workers involved in the planning/change of postal buildings and operational systems and equipment to ensure occupational health, safety and environmental conditions are met and the standards and regulations are maintained.
Provide leadership in the conducting of accident/incident investigation training, ensure that training standards are consistently
EDUCATION:
Post secondary education specializing in any of the following disciplines, Occupational Health & Safety, Kinesiology, Human Factors Engineering, or other related degree.
EXPERIENCE:
3 to 5 years in the development and delivery of workplace safety and health initiatives and programs in an industrial or corporate setting.
Practical knowledge of safety management system principles, industry best practices and standards, health and safety legislation and its application within a unionized environment.
In the implementation and sustainability of safety programs in an industrial setting.
